AEFI (Adverse Events Following Immunisation)

Expected side effects- first few days of
fever, fatigue, headache, muscle pain, chill, nausea/diarrhoea, pain at

injection site

Red flags
- difficulty breathing,
- chest pain,
- confusion/drowsiness,
- loss of speech or mobility,
- severe persistent headache that
• does not improve with simple painkillers

• gets worse when lying down or accompanied by nausea and
vomiting
- Neurological symptoms such as:
- • blurred vision
• difficulty with speech
- Swelling of the legs
- Persistent abdominal pain
- Tiny blood spots under the skin
