Q&A
Would it benefit the child if let the child sit up on the walker but
lock the wheels?
Be patient with the brain development. In general, a child will only be
able to sit without support at the age of 8 ½ months. Different parts of
the brain that has been connected need to be strengthened by repetitive
training of muscles groups, ligaments and joints which will eventually
improve the strength, coordination and balance. A baby walker takes
away these opportunities for training of several muscle groups.
If a child was put on walker previously, would that affect his
brain development?
A child with a history of being put in the baby walker does not have
damage in terms of brain development but is more likely to be slower in
walking and may have less strength and coordination in the lower limbs.
Does the different formula milk that contains DHA etc. really
help with baby’s brain development as advertised?
No definite answer available to this question for now as more research
and studies are required to understand it more.
At what age should we seek help if we suspect the child has
speech delay?
In general, child at 18 months old and still yet to speak a single word
needs to be further assessed.
