Polarimetry

 When equal amount of d and l isomers are present that mixture is said to be

racemic/ dl mixture, exhibits no optical activity.

 Any molecule that contains at least an asymmetric carbon atom (a chiral

center) possesses molecular asymmetry and as a result optical activity.

 Enantiomers or Antipodes (D and L isomers):

Pair of enantiomers or antipodes is the two Stereoisomers of a compound

having an asymmetric carbon atom and are mirror image of each other. One rotates

the plane-polarized light to the right and the other to the left by the same value.
