Doesnt always mean equal...
A common misconception is that balance means EQUAL. NOPE. Balance refers more to the over all composition. Images without equal portions can still feel balanced, which has to do with the weight of the individual element within the image itself.
The image to the right is a classic example of something with equal proportions on opposing directions.
