Animals & Plants

You can see many beautiful plants in the park. They are all different, but they have something in
common. Most plants have flowers, roots, stems, and leaves. Each part helps the plant grow well.
Flowers are the most colorful parts of plants. Flowers are important because they help make new
plants. Flowers make fruits and seeds. The seeds eventually grow into new plants.

Roots grow mostly under the ground. They take in water and nutrients from the soil. The plants
need these things to grow well. Nutrients and water travel through the roots to the stems.
Stems grow above the ground. They carry water and nutrients from the roots to the leaves. The
stems also help hold the plants up. This allows them to get sunlight. Leaves grow out from the
stems. They make food for the plants. Leaves use sunlight, air, and water to make food.
