The writers
strike is still
ongoing in 2023
The writers strike in 2023 is still ongoing as of August 23, 2023. The Writers
Guild of America (WGA) and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television
Producers (AMPTP) have been negotiating a new contract since May 1, 2023,
but have been unable to reach an agreement. The main sticking points in
the negotiations are streaming residuals, new media, and diversity.
The WGA is seeking a larger share of streaming residuals, which are the
payments that writers receive when their work is streamed online. The
AMPTP is resisting this demand, arguing that streaming is a new and
evolving industry and that it is not yet clear how residuals should be
calculated.

The WGA is also seeking more
protections for writers in the new media Editor
space, such as video games and virtual
reality. The AMPTP is concerned that
these protections would be too costly
and would stifle innovation.
Finally, the WGA is seeking more diversity
in the entertainment industry, including POZE MAGAZINE
more opportunities for writers of color
and women. The AMPTP has agreed to
some diversity measures, but the WGA is Poze
not satisfied with the level of Magazine
commitment.
