            Shlump

               --Review: --Ben E Zander--

Walking into Bass Station on Saturday, April 13 th , I knew
full well the sounds and stylings of Wakaan heavy, and
alien bass enthusiast, Shlump. The rest of the lineup
remained mostly a mystery. However, every performer I
witnessed from the moment I stepped into the building
             introduced awesomeness that multiplied excitement
adding to the night’s terrific entertainment and
experience. Each artist who touched the stage brought
their A+ game and executed unique productions. Extra
credit and stickers all around. If I could have, I would have
wheeled the DJ. All of them. Run it back, let’s do it again!
All the gifted artists assembled for Shlump’s ‘Zero
Gravity’ tour date in Chicagoland collaborated for a
spectacular occasion that myself, and many in
             attendance, won’t soon forget.

I entered the Lakehurst Event Center in Waukegan, IL
roughly a quarter after ten PM. This has become a
venue I delight in frequenting due to the accessibility of
its location away from the city (45 minutes from the --Review and photos by --Ben E Zander--
burbs) and its unique layout and accommodation.
Tonight, within one of its smaller chambers, I quickly
found comfort in an intimate setting. A healthy crowd
already on site and steadily growing, my greeter was a
bass babe by the name of Scarlet Widow. If you have a
phobia of spiders, get over it, this one’s friendly with a
killer spirit. She’s more of a sonic summoner than
poisonous arachnid, though I don’t doubt she has a
catalogue of tracks laced with teeth and venom.
Tonight, however, she deftly wove webs of OG hip-hop
blended with dubstep. A touch of riddim here and
there, but not too much, creating a satisfying, satiating,
and well-meaning mixture of melodies for all to enjoy. I
sense the passion and exuberance she embeds into
musical sequences that elicit delight from listeners. Her
             notoriety continues to grow.

--Review and photos by --Ben E Zander--
