THIS MONTH IN MUSIC HISTORY On August 2, 1969, the
Woodstock Music and Art Fair
A HISTORIC was held in Bethel, New York,
making it a historic day in popular
culture and music history. During
DAY IN the three days of the festival, it
drew roughly 400,000 people,
which made it the largest human
POPULAR gathering in the United States at
the time.
CULTURE AND Organized by four young
entrepreneurs, Michael Lang,
Artie Kornfeld, Joel Rosenman,
MUSIC and John Roberts, the event was
originally deemed the Woodstock
Music and Arts Festival and was
meant to be held in Woodstock,
HISTORY New York. Fortunately, due to
some local politicians, it had to be
changed to a field in Bethel and
was eventually changed to the
shorter and sweeter title of
Woodstock.
