Founded in 2018, New East West Academy chose its name by combining the best part of East and West education together to help the students build an academic foundation and prepare for their future. Owner Susan Wang Bommarito has been in the Las Vegas community for 12 years and shares more about the academy.
Tell us about how your business got started. What inspired you to start your business? "As a lifelong educator, I wanted to give my children the best education possible. And as a Chinese American, I really wanted my children to be bilingual. When I moved to Las Vegas in 2012, I was looking for a Chinese school for my children, but I couldn't find a learning center that taught students listening, speaking, reading and writing simplified Chinese. So, I decided to take matters into my own hands and start my own Chinese school. Using my previous experience as an educator I created New East West Academy in 2018. As the number of students grew and per parents' request, we added Afficient Math and English and soon after we added chess, art, speech and debate classes as well as the Logiscool Coding Courses to our programs."
What is one thing you would like your customers to know about you and your business? "We have the best Chinese program for all ages and levels in the region. We are the only learning center in Nevada that offers Afficient AI-Driven Math and English programs to accelerate academic performance. Over 90% of Afficient students complete on grade level contents with an A or A+ in 2 to 4 months. We have the best chess program designed and coached by a world chess champion and certified chess coach.
We also have well-established art and speech and debate classes as well as coding courses for varying ages and levels. Our seasonal academic camps provide great value to students and families during school downtimes."
Any exciting plans for the future you would like to share with our readers?
"We look forward to opening immersion Chinese classes for PreK and Kindergarten kids on weekdays and weekends in 2025. Classes will be taught by the native Chinese teacher in a fun and nurturing environment."
