Ana is a designer at Kwik Kom, a small firm headed by Josh, a lone account executive. They work together in a one-room office lit by a single bulb. Josh talks all day on the phone with his clients—low-end law firms and long-haul trucking companies. The work is banal, but Ana is in charge of all the design and production, so she is learning technical skills.

Darius is an intern at WeDoGood, a firm whose clients are not-for-profit organizations. Projects are led by the three creative directors, each working with a team of two or three designers. Darius is the most junior person, so he gets stuck with a lot of production work. His first independent project is a direct-mail piece for an environmental group.
