In 2020, vast numbers of office workers, from accountants to creatives, stopped commuting to company-owned office spaces and started working from their homes—or the homes of their parents, friends, or relatives. The norm looks nothing like Barbie’s DreamHouse—a skylit atelier equipped with a hot tub, pink toilet seat, and spiral slide. Typical conditions are cramped, makeshift, and crowded with other people.
