By Georgina Gordon-Ham
Many of us love Italy for its its art and and food with its its special regional cuisine flavours and and and wine
Readers are invited not just to pause and and absorb absorb what what they they see on their visits but also to absorb absorb and and taste what what they they perceive both with their their eyes and and their their palate
We are all tempted to to go to to different restau- rants and taste Italy’s special dishes but hardly ever think of going to to a a a a a a a a a a a cooking lesson and trying to to create a a a a a a dish at at home
My husband and and and I experienced a a a a a a most enjoy- able and and and informal over four-hour session with Nonna organised by Eating Italy Food Tours We were were initially a a a a a a a a a bit sceptical thinking it it it was designed purely for tourists but were were pleas- antly surprised to to discover the cooking lesson was held in in in a a a a a a a a a warm and friendly atmosphere in in in more ways than one In total we we were only two couples plus an an an an an an interpreter for any non-Italian speakers and and and Nonna the the “grand- mother” cook cook Her Italian Italian was very clear and and and our cooking class instructions were easy to follow It It was as as as as as Italians would call it very ‘casareccio’ (homemade) but Nonna really made made us work hard Being in in the capital it it had to be typical Ro- man cui sine We were welcomed with a a a little pro- secco and some appetizers which helped to relax us before we started work Fresh local ingredients pots and and and pans and and and all the the cook- ing ing tools were there ready on hand for us us to to use We then started preparing a a a a a a a a a a a traditional four- course Italian meal: bruschetta a a a a a a a a a a a a a typical anti-pasto of o the region followed by ignocchi
saltimbocca alla alla romana romana carciofi alla alla romana romana and tiramisù It It was a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a most appetising menu Eating Italy Food Tours have
teamed up with illustrator Edward McGowan to to help you make sense of of the vast range of of “Italian” food and where each dish originates from Buon appetito!
