‘Listening to Linlithgow’ in partnership with Museum Galleries Scotland to celebrate the Year of Stories. This is
a chance to share your stories and memories about pubs, sports and the Union Canal and become part of Linlithgow History. Your story may also feature in future exhibitions. Watch our Facebook page for updates. We have some great things planned.
Our popular talks series will also kick back off in September, so keep an eye on our Social Media and website for more details. Plans are still being made, but we hope to be holding these in person again, with perhaps an option still to login remotely for those who prefer. We are looking forward to sharing some good tales and, as always, some good biscuits.

       Summer thank you
We’d like to start by saying thank you to all the visitors who visited during the extended summer opening. We hope you enjoyed the activities and crafts that were going on in the galleries and community space. The explorer packs went down well, and
we hope that children enjoyed the activities and that it gave some holiday ideas for parents and carers.
After a busy summer, it’s going to be an even busier autumn! Although the museum will revert back to Friday to Sunday opening, we have a lot going on that we hope you will enjoy.
Bottles and Antiques
Firstly, something a bit different for
the town - an autumn bottle show and
car boot. Taking place on the 24th September at the Queen Margaret
Hall, from 8.30am till 1.00pm, this is
the first time this event has been held
in Linlithgow. Dealers from all over Scotland and the north of England will be buying and selling ginger beer bottles, butter crocks, cream pots, black glass and all manner of advertising paraphernalia. Running alongside will be a car boot sale from 8am till 12 noon. This event will come hot on the heels of our usual autumn “Antique, Vintage and Collectors Fayre,” in the same venue on September 10th from 9am till 4pm.
Places of Science project
The museum is excited to be awarded The Royal Society “Places of Science” funding. This funding supports museums to engage local communities through their heritage and science collections. Working with our project partners at Heriot-Watt University, we will deliver activities which explore
the museum’s science collections and current cutting-edge scientific research. Participants will be taken on a journey from local historical discoveries to present day developments. Activities will include talks, family workshops and an exhibition. Watch our website for details.
To boldly go:
James Doohan Exhibition
Coming in September is our exhibition linked to Linlithgow’s future heritage.
We invite you to explore the life of
actor James Doohan who played Scotty in “Star Trek: The Original Series”. Celebrate the future birth of Montgomery Scott, Chief Engineer on the USS Enterprise, which will happen in Linlithgow in 2222. See objects relating to Star Trek, science and the actor himself. Opens mid-September; keep an eye on our social media.
“Year of Stories” project and our talks series
Later this year, we will be launching
