it was very reminiscent of 5th May 1973. I'll be watching the game in the pub, probably the Rosedene, and my match prediction is a 3-1 win for us.
I got to the Rosedene at 2.15, purchased a Peroni and sorted myself a space standing at the corner of the back bar. The wifi was taking ages to kick in so I asked one of the faithful about the team-news and he said that it was pretty much the same as the last match. “Nothing mega” he said, which sounded good, adding that Broadhead was on the bench, which was even better. As kick-off approached the pub was filling up, with plenty of people standing, and thankfully no tall folks were blocking my view.
There was cheering and clapping in the pub as the teams emerged. I was expecting us to be playing in red and white and we were. I’ve never seen Alex Neil look so smart but he was soon back in his civvies.
We were awarded a free-kick in the third minute when Cirkin was fouled on the edge of their box and there was much whooping in the pub when it looked like Pritchard’s kick had gone in but in fact it had gone very narrowly wide. We were soon pressing again and Stewart almost connected with a cross by their left post. So far, so good anyway. From Wycombe’s first press not long afterwards Patterson rose confidently to collect a cross from the right. We continued to do most of the pressing and won our first corner in the eleventh minute but in the next minute we went ahead and it sent the pub doolally. Embleton received the ball in the centre
