As the teams emerged for the second-half I remained confident that we’d win. We conceded an early free-kick but the ball was hoofed clear. We then conceded another free- kick in a much more dangerous spot at the angle of our box but Patterson rose to punch it away. Wycombe had much the better of the opening five minutes but we weathered the storm and in fact we had a great chance when Stewart headed a Pritchard cross just wide. It still felt like it was going to be nervy from then on. Just before the hour-mark Patterson made a crucial save at the feet of Vokes and I reckoned they’d had their chance. Next thing we replaced Embleton with Clarke. Soon Wycombe replaced Obita and that suited me. Twenty-five minutes to go and we were getting the better of things again. We had what looked to me like a good penalty shout in the sixty-seventh minute but had to settle for a corner that came to nothing. We had them on the run, anyway, and soon won another corner that we really should have made more of. Twenty minutes to go and our fans in the stadium were looking happy.
There was a stoppage for a couple of minutes during which the Wycombe players passed round a written note of some kind. At the end of it Akinfenwa made his appearance as a sub, as we knew he would and I was sure he’d been catered for.
