still looking as safe as houses. We surely put the game beyond doubt with twelve or so minutes on the clock when Stewart received a low cross from our right and slipped a shot into the bottom left corner with Stockdale again looking like a pint of milk. We brought on Doyle for Pritchard. Seven minutes to go with a fair bit of stoppage-time and the sun was shining, we were defending well and the cool, cool Peroni continued to slip easily down the neck. I couldn’t see Wycombe getting one let alone two and we looked more likely to get a third. With a couple of minutes on the clock we brought on Broadhead for Stewart. I’d wondered if McGeady would be given a last bow but we had to be practical. As the cameras found Quinn and Reid in the crowd I started to well up a bit – just a bit, though! Akinfenwa had an effort on target in the dying seconds but yet again Patterson was well up to it. There were groans in the pub as five minutes of stoppage- time were announced but it was no surprise what with the injury and subs. Soon enough the final whistle went and Alex Neil was hugging his colleagues as the decibel level in the pub reached max.
This was a well-deserved win and all thanks to Alex Neil for getting us out of this shithouse league at last. It never looked in doubt today.
