OCTOBER GIGS
AT NE VOLUME MUSIC BAR, STOCKTON
With those dark, cold and gloomy autumnal nights drawing in, what better way is there to start our jam-packed month of gigs than with a metal special, brought to you by Saint Gallows, featuring Vulgar Dissection, Stone Cold Abyss and Erebor. Just a day later, on Sunday 2nd, the darkness remains as Dead Endeavours Weekend presents Paul James Berry, a solo singer-songwriter and guitarist of the Rose of Avalanche, backed up with a cast of goth and alt bands including The Golden Age of Nothing, The Jan Doyle Band, Analogue Blood and William Denton Wilde. Our Battle of the Bands competition continues on Wednesday 5th, with heat five featuring doom-rock outfit Brass Eyed Dragons, Leeds-based rock band New Terminal Boy, rock duo Beto Bob and post-punk outfit Porkhead. And on Friday 7th, after a long wait due to the impact of covid, we’re finally bringing Canterbury world music/rap/folk/indie/alternative outfit Coco & The Butterfields to Stockton for a special, intimate performance as part of their 10-year anniversary tour. Fresh from supporting The Amazons, Birmingham psychedelic rock/ post-punk outfit The Novus join us on Saturday 8th, with support coming from Teesside rock outfit, High Tide in what is certain to be a raucous, DIY live show. Heat six of our Battle of the Bands competition takes place on Wednesday 12th and will feature metal outfit Nation in Ruin, alt-indie band Cactusman, post-punk/new-wave three-piece Charts and Graphs, and rap/hip-hop outfit Rame Kari. On Friday 14th, indie four-piece Dubinski travel to Teesside via Edinburgh, with support coming from up-and-coming Stockton indie band, Provenance. A special event set up to support children with autism and their families will take place on Saturday 15th October and will feature a number of rock outfits from across the region including Manfrog, Autumn Hostage, Kings Ransom and Thought Trumpet. And who said Sundays have to be quiet, mundane affairs? Because we’re bringing a full- throttle live show to Stockton with the help of South African- based/French-born alt-rock/post-punk/grunge duo The Soap Girls, glam stomp rock 'n' roll outfit Rudi Betamax and three-piece rock band, Hot Rockets. Other notable highlights for later in the month include The Inklings’ album launch, the return of Jenny Lascelles, Sunderland indie-rock outfit Spilt Milk’s first visit to our venue, and Hartlepool promoters, Pindrop, will bring Lim Orion, Natasha Graham and Jasmine Weatherhill to Stockton. Few names carry as much weight in the noise-rock scene as New York's Unsane. Formed in 1988, their blend of metallic heaviness and noisy experimentalism, all delivered with a typical New York hardcore abrasiveness, has seen the band develop a devoted cult following. Joining founding member and guitarist/vocalist Chris Spencer will be Daughter's drummer Jon Syverson and bassist Cooper of Paradise Players Club, as the new line-up will focus on earlier cuts from their back catalogue following a remastered rerelease of their self- titled debut LP. They perform at The Lubber Fiend in Newcastle on Friday 28th October. KEV SHORT
