ONE OFF
AT LIVE THEATRE, NEWCASTLE
This November sees a new project from Ric Renton brought to life as he brings his newest show, One Off, to the Live Theatre in Newcastle. The production follows the story of Renton’s actual life. Born in Denton Burn, he had a troubled upbringing which ultimately led to him spending his young adulthood years in HMP Durham where he learnt to read and write. Now, he brings his story back to life for audiences as they join Knox, Brown, and Shepherd in their experience of passing time in the prison with the highest suicide rate in the country. Through their friendship, they find energy in an ever- shrinking environment that is haunted by lives lost. When a new nightwatchman, Jock, arrives and offers Shepherd a way out of the darkness, what will happen to our trio? With high-energy and dark humour, this is a must-see. Audiences will get the opportunity to see what has been described as the most astonishing new voice you will hear this year from Thursday 10th November – Saturday 26th November. GEORGINA SHINE

FESTIVAL OF LIGHT AND COLOUR
AT ARC, STOCKTON
Stockton’s ARC will play host to the annual Festival of Light and Colour on October 19th, a celebration to mark Diwali. A fantastic act announced for this year’s festival are North East-based multi-cultural dance group, Navrang Arts. The group, which was established back in 1994 by Daksha Asher, aims to promote Indian arts and culture to the youth of the local area. Throughout the years, it has attracted members of all ages, races and religions and has become a vibrant melting pot of multi-cultural appreciation for Indian culture. This year, the group will be bringing their unique fusion of styles to delight festival- goers. Besides Navrang Arts’ performance, there will be a variety of entertainment opportunities available to visitors, from comedians, musicians, and a Bhangra disco, to crafts and henna tattoos, as well as a variety of food stalls selling traditional Indian cuisine. As well as celebrating the time of Diwali, the event will enable people to obtain a better understanding of various Hindu traditions and Indian culture whilst also adding a modern twist. Diwali celebrates the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil, which is something we can all come together and celebrate. Therefore, we would like to wish you a Diwali that brings happiness, prosperity, and joy to you and all of your family. So happy Diwali one and all, and may you enjoy your time and your celebrations.
