COMEDY
Elf Lyons hits up The Stand Comedy Club in Newcastle on Monday 17th October with her horrifying comedy, ‘Raven’, a Stephen King-inspired show, part Mad Clown comedy spectacle, part Hammer Horror - and she’s ready to make you float too. Elf Lyons is an award-winning comedian, theatre maker, director, comedy writer and voice artist and has gained a cult reputation as one of the most innovative UK comedy and theatre scene performers. Her work has included re- enactments of classical ballets, musicals about the economy, immersive horror shows and even lectures at venues such as the Barbican on the Surrealist movement. She is a popular face among comedy and horror lovers in the UK, and she is best known for her performances on BBC Radio 4, BBC Radio 1, Dave and BBC Three. Since 2017, Elf has been nominated for the Edinburgh Comedy Award for Best Show at the Edinburgh Fringe, the Malcolm Hardee Award for Comic Originality and Fringe World Perth’s Best Comedy Show. In 2018, she won Pick of the Fringe at the Adelaide Fringe, Australia. And in 2020, her show ‘Unlikely Darlings’ with Helen Duff was one of The Telegraph’s 50 Best Cultural Moments of the year. In 2022, Elf has created and performed three one-hour comedy shows, each touring separately around the UK and internationally from 2023 onwards. These include ‘HEIST’ – an absurdist comedy show conducted entirely in BSL with Duffy; ‘TALK DIRTY’ – a one-hour straight stand-up show about filth; and ‘RAVEN’ – her five-star mad-cap comedy horror show. The comedian, writer and actress has been featured in The Times, The Guardian and Vogue. The Times described her show as: “Expert clowning that’s by turns charming, silly, touching and catastrophic”, while The Guardian said it is: “A fast-talking, smart-thinking stand-up for whom the adjective “kooky” could have been invented.” Vogue called Lyons one of the five best new British female comics. In ‘Raven’, Elf becomes your own personal Pennywise as she merges horror techniques with old-school storytelling to make you laugh and shiver in equal measure. With a sense of humour worthy of Jack Torrance, Elf Lyons is sure to deliver a hilarious version of The Shining to delight and frighten the audience. Presented by Mick Perrin Worldwide in association with Blue Book Artist Management, ‘Raven’ at The Stand in Newcastle might be enough to exorcise your own inner demons. ANDREEA LARISA DUMITRU

STAGE
Alphabetti Theatre have partnered up with Joanna Geronimo to present the world premiere of Out-Out!, a fascinating insight into the world of social media and actual reality. The performance, which will run from Tuesday 18th October to Saturday 5th November, is a development of Joanna’s recent work with Alphabetti Theatre’s Reaction Artists Programme and follows the story of Joanna who is going out one night. She is ready: her boots are on, her phone is in her pocket, and she is ready to dance the night away until dawn. For this night, Joanna is not going to think about what a good photo the moment would make, how happy it would make other people if she shared the image, how she should share an image, or why she should share the image to prove she was there. Living in two worlds, one old and one new, it can be hard to tell which world is the reality. So for tonight, Joanna is putting her phone down and her hands up and she wants to share this night with you, the audience. GEORGINA SHINE
