EDINBURGH AIRPORT RECORDS
STRONG RECOVERY IN 2022
Edinburgh Airport has published its 2022 passenger traffic statistics, which show a strong recovery compared with both the previous year and its busiest year on record, which was 2019.
More than 11 million passengers travelled through the airport in 2022, up from 3,031,140 in 2021. In 2019, its busiest ever year, Edinburgh Airport recorded
14.7 million passengers.
Gordon Dewar, Chief Executive of Edinburgh Airport, said: “We are encouraged by the ongoing recovery in passenger numbers in 2022, which we hope in turn reflects more economic activity across the country, as inbound visitors to Scotland provide a much- needed shot in the arm for our tourism and hospitality industries.
“There is little doubt that people want to travel – both from Scotland for holidays or business opportunities or those international tourists coming to experience the best of Scotland’s visitor attractions and beautiful places and landmarks.
“The important challenge for us, in partnership with the city, the Scottish Government and others, is to facilitate growth in a responsible way and in a way that protects the vast number of high-quality jobs that airports provide, both directly and indirectly through airlines, handling agents among others, and the supply chain that supports us all.”
AER LINGUS REGIONAL
TO LAUNCH NEW SERVICES
Emerald Airlines, exclusive operator of the Aer Lingus Regional network, has announced two new services to Newcastle and Nottingham East Midlands from Belfast City Airport. All domestic regional points vacated by Flybe at Belfast City Airport will now be reestablished by Aer Lingus Regional.
The daily flights between Belfast City - Newcastle will commence on 28th April, while the Nottingham East Midlands service will start from 26th March, initially as a daily service, increasing up to double daily from mid-April.
The airline provides connectivity to Birmingham, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Exeter, Glasgow, Leeds Bradford, Manchester and Southampton from Belfast, in addition to the airline’s Summer services to Jersey and Newquay.
Katy Best, Commercial Director at Belfast City Airport, said: “Following the collapse of Flybe, East Midlands and Newcastle were the airline’s only destinations not served by other carriers from Belfast City Airport. Having Emerald Airlines step-up and operate the Aer Lingus Regional services on both routes, in addition to its already extensive network from Belfast City, is therefore excellent news as it leaves no Flybe destination unserved.
“Maintaining a robust route network and ensuring connectivity to and from Northern Ireland remains our priority, and we look forward to continuing and developing our successful partnership with Emerald Airlines.”
Loganair has released its 2023 summer schedule for services between the Isle of Man and London - including a daily flight from Ronaldsway to London Heathrow, commencing 31st March.

and Turkish Airlines.
Loganair’s summer 2023 schedule, which runs until 28th October, includes twice daily flights to London City Monday to Wednesday and an early evening service on Thursday, Friday and Sunday.
