   Things you need to know...
Extension of easements for UKCA marking
The deadline for when businesses need to use the UKCA mark has been extended. Businesses can now continue to use the CE marking and reversed epsilon marking on the GB market until 31st December 2024.
The government intends to introduce legislation so that the UKCA marking can be placed on a label affixed to the product (or on an accompanying document) until 31st December 2027.

and prepare themselves for CDS which (as SGS clarified in our last issue) is different from CHIEF.
Teesside Freeport Official Launch as an early Christmas present to the region
On 7th December 2022, the Teesside Freeport (alongside the Plymouth and South Devon Freeports) became fully operational after final government sign off.
Each of the three Freeports received up to £25 million seed funding.
It has been well publicised that businesses within Freeports (and the internal customs and tax sites) can take advantage of numerous benefits including tax incentives, customs easements, business rates retention, planning, regeneration, innovation and trade and investment support.
Teesside Freeport in particular is the largest freeport in the UK covering approximately 4,500 acres. It is estimated that the Freeport will bring a
£3.2billion boost to the economy.
  CDS introduction looming for exporters
The Customs Declaration Service (CDS), which is the replacement system for CHIEF, will become compulsory for exporters to use from 1st April 2023.
The CDS system is already in use by importers following the closure of CHIEF for importers on 31st September 2022.
Though exporters may feel that they have time on their side it is important that they take steps now to familiarise and prepare themselves for CDS, which is (as SGS clarified in our last issue) different from CHIEF.
