TCR The Hub is undoubtedly one of Barnard Castle’s most forward-thinking organisations
BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT SEPTEMBER 2022
TCR THE HUB BARNARD CASTLE
TCR The Hub in Barnard Castle is a real family-friendly centre that has been purposely designed to support the local community and help young people get into music.Home to high-tech rehearsal rooms, a recording studio, performance hall, a purpose-built cafe and even a high-ropes course, TCR The Hub is undoubtedly one of Barnard Castle’s most forward-thinking organisations. Speaking about the music studio, Tom Whittaker, the music coordinator at TCR The Hub noted: “We have the equipment and facilities to be able to work with a solo artist and an acoustic guitar right through to a full choir.” Both the equipment and the facilities on offer are to an extremely high standard and are used by, on average, about 80 people a week in terms of lessons, with band slots open on a Thursday and Friday evening. In order to help young people get into music, the TCR Hub’s prices are extremely reasonable too. Available from Monday to Wednesday, a 45-minute one-to-one session is priced at £15.00 for a child (aged 6+) or £18.50 for an adult, with half-hour sessions costing just £12.50. 90-minute band practice slots are also available on a Thursday and Friday night priced at £12.00 for under 18s and £15.00 for adults, with that price including breakables. In fact, as Tom notes: “You don’t need to bring any of your own gear if you don’t want to as we have everything here that you could possibly need”. Tom has a passion for music and supporting up-and-coming artists and has experience within the field to be able to support you during your time at TCR The Hub. He added: “I studied Creative Music Technology at Hull University and the course not only helped me to find out more about performing live, but it also allowed me to learn more about mixing and recording. I also worked at Yorkshire Coast Radio on the undiscovered show where I played tracks by up- and-coming artists every week as that’s my passion.” Besides the music sessions and recording facilities, TCR The Hub also runs drumming camps, yoga sessions, food festivals, outdoor activity days, watersport sessions and gigs. Moving into the future, Tom and the team explained the Hub’s aims for the rest of the year: “We want to increase band usage so we do have a few slots available on a Thursday and Friday
night if anybody would like to come down.” LEE ALLCOCK Visit: tcrhub.co.uk
