Her understanding of spoken language is slightly delated and she can use short, simple sentences but she often misses out the little grammatical words and endings. Sam is 3. His understanding of spoken language is delayed by at least 12 months and he is only just beginning to join words together. He likes to play alongside other children. Ester is 4. She doesn't like playing with any other children. She pushes them out of the way or shouts at them. Her ability to understand and use spoken language is delayed. Ezra is 3. He has been in the UK for 2 months. He is learning English. English is not spoken at home. He plays quietly alongside the other children. He very rarely speaks in the setting and if he does, he uses his home language.Ajay is 4. His understanding of spoken language is within normal limits but his speech is very difficult for adults and peers to understand. This means he is reluctant to talk.Zein is 3. He cannot settle at any activity for more than a couple of minutes. He likes sand, water, digging soil, pushing bikes and ride on cars, but not sitting in/on anything. He hates being asked to do things and runs off when you talk to him. He has very little spoken language. Lukas is nearly 5. He talks a lot and talks confidently. He enjoys the company of his peers. A recent speech and language therapy assessment suggests that he is not understanding anything like the amount of language everyone thought he was. Yulia is 4. She has been in the UK for 2 years but her ability to understand and use spoken language is delayed by about 2 years. Mum says she is worried about her talking in her home language.
