EarYou have to be able to hear words clearly and distinguish between the speech sounds. For example you have to hear %u2018key%u2019 as distinct from %u2018tea%u2019.C. Word StoreC. Word StoreWords are stored as a pattern or speech sounds. If the child has not heard or processed the information from the ear accurately, the code may be incorrect. For example, the word %u2018key%u2019 could be stored as [dey].D. MouthInstructions from the word store about which sounds have to be articulated must be sent to the muscles of the mouth. The oral muscles then move to form the sounds.Problems can occur at any one or a combination of the stages. The important point to note is that for many children it is the information in the word store which is incorrect. This is due to difficulties hearing or an immature speech processing system and means that the instructions about how to say the word in the word store are inaccurate. To help the child, therapy must aim to change the code of instructions in the word store. There are several different speech disorders. The above model applies to children with phonological delay. Other speech disorders are more complex and the above processes may be PART of the difficulty .
