me who he was. He cautioned me not to displease him as he was very
close to our boss, the Zonal Manager.
I thanked him for his concern but told him about what had happened.
He suggested me to be tactful and not spoil relations with influential
people in Zonal office. He was sure that the officer would do some
mischief against me. I had not said anything wrong and had only stated
facts. I decided to prepare myself for consequences. I was not happy at
this office due to excessive work with intense office politics on top of it.
I was mentally prepared to take the things as they come because I
believed whatever would happen in spite of my best intentions, must be
God's will.
I was transferred to the Main Branch from Zonal Office within a month
from this incident. I was told by the Zonal Head that there was an urgent
requirement of an officer at the Main Branch of the city to replace one
officer who has been transferred to other city. This got confirmed later
by the Branch Head also.
The same annoyed officer was posted in my place in that department at
Zonal Office. He started finding faults with my past work as per files left
behind. He would go to Zonal Manager and complain saying many papers
were missing or not traceable. The Zonal Manager would call up my
Branch Head to pass on the message to me to visit Zonal Office. It
happened three four times and I went upstairs in Zonal Office and showed
him the papers lying in the files in his office. Only he was not careful in
looking into relevant files. Every time I would brief the Zonal Head about
the status of the settled issues. He failed to prejudice the Zonal Head in-
spite of several tactics.
Then he remembered the recent purchase of strong room door and cash
safe for the recently opened branch. He tried to influence the Zonal Head
about the possibility of kickback in that deal. He started investigating if I
had got some. A colleague told me that he had been making personal
