Message from the President
Today is a celebration of all that is good about our students, teachers, par-
ents and the school. This moment, your last year in high school, is a time I
know you and your families have been anticipating for many years.
It is understandable if you are a little bit frustrated that your graduation cere-
mony looked a whole lot different than what you’d pictured. Who would not
want a chance to celebrate this important milestone in your life with friends
and teachers you have come to love, move the polyester tassel from one
side of a cardboard hat to another, and toss it joyfully in the air afterwards in
person? But no cancelled on-campus graduation can take away all that you’ve
accomplished over the past six years!
You’re like a seed planted by a farmer in the soil. Did the farmer bury the
seed? Well, yes, he did. But instead of feeling buried by your circumstances
during these challenging times, you’re the seed that chose to grow and pros-
per into who you are meant to be. You did not let the pandemic destroy
your spirit and talents and instead allowed yourself to be planted instead of
buried. You are more than qualified to conquer bigger stages and to pursue
greater ambitions.
This day is about you and what you’ve achieved through grit, hard work and
moments of creative inspiration. Graduation is also a time to imagine your
future where you will spend most of your lives. You will hopefully maintain a
positive outlook and open your eyes and hearts to opportunities when they
present themselves. Of course there will be challenges ahead but with the
awareness and manner you have conducted yourselves over the years and
with the skills and knowledge Southville has imparted in you, you will surely
overcome them.
I am excited about the future for each one of you graduating today. Take
care, be well and live your best lives, Class of 2021!
