Experimental

5 0 square inches of sample were exposed b y total immersion to 1 00mL of distilled water, 10% v/v
aqueous ethanol, and heptane. Samples undergoing extraction in distilled water, and 10% v/v aqueous

ethanol were exposed for 2 4 hours at 6 6 C. Samples undergoing heptane extraction underwent exposure
°
at 3 8 C for 3 0 minutes. At the end of the exposure period the samples were removed from the extractants.
The extractants were filtered and evaporated to dryness. Total extractives were determined
gravimetrically.
