21. Towards the smart factory with paperless machine shop

CIMCO MDM is the total document management solution for organizing and managing all of
your manufacturing related documents. Securely stored in a single data location and easily
available to users in your organization – on the shop floor, in the office or remotely across mul-
tiple facilities.

CIMCO-MDM is scalable, fully customizable and integrates with your existing setup to enable
paperless shop floor operation. Restrict access to documents for users and machines, trans-
fer files to/from machines, define status-driven workflows, generate reports and easily
backup/restore documents with the built-in versioning system.
CIMCO-MDM integrates with all your existing applications such as editors, CIMCO-DNC and
CIMCO-MDC systems and additionally provides seamless integration with CAD/CAM systems
from leading vendors.

CIMCO MDM is a client/server based system consisting of the MDM Server, MDM Client,
and the MDM Web Client. The MDM Server is the core component which handles a fast SQL
database and stores the physical files. The MDM Client and Web Client provide intuitive user
interfaces for managing documents on the MDM Server. In a small setup the server and cli-
ent can run on the same PC.

Machines on your network can also connect to the MDM Server and access dedicated ma-
chine directories. This provides a number of advantages such as sending and receiving files
directly from the machine control.
