            Advantages of Reading

As an intellectual object, a publication is prototypically a composition of these great length that it
requires a considerable investment of time to compose and a still considerable, though not so
extensive, investment of time to browse. In the restricted sense, a book is a self explanatory
section or portion of a longer composition, a usage that reflects the fact that, in antiquity, long
functions needed to be written on several scrolls, and every scroll needed to be identified from the
book it included. Therefore, for example, each component of Aristotles Physics is called a book. In
the unrestricted sense, a publication is your compositional whole of which these segments,
whether called chapters or books or parts, are components.

The intellectual content in a tangible book need not be a composition, nor even be called a book.
Novels can consist only of drawings, engravings, or photographs, or such matters as crossword
puzzles or cut-out dolls. In a physical book, the pages can be left blank or can contain an abstract
set of outlines as support for ongoing entries, e.g., an account book, an appointment book, an
autograph book, a notebook, a diary, or a sketchbook. Some physical publications are created with
pages thick and sturdy enough to encourage other physical objects, like a record or photograph
album. Books could be distributed in electronic form as e-books along with other formats.

Although in ordinary academic parlance a monograph is known to be a specialist academic work,
rather than a reference work on a single scholarly subject, in library and information science
monograph denotes more broadly any non-serial publication complete in 1 volume (publication ) or
a finite number of volumes (even a novel like Prousts seven-volume In Search of Lost Time),
compared to sequential books like a magazine, journal, or newspaper. An avid reader or collector
of books is a bibliophile or colloquially,"bookworm". A shop where books are purchased and sold is
a bookshop or bookstore. Books can also be sold everywhere. Google has estimated that as of
2010, approximately 130,000,000 distinct titles had been published. In some wealthier nations, the
selling of printed books has decreased due to the increased usage of e-books.

In the 2000s, as a result of growth in availability of affordable handheld computing devices, the
opportunity to share texts through electronic means became an attractive option for media
publishers. The term e-book is a contraction of"digital book"; it pertains to a book-length publication
in digital form. An e-book is usually made accessible through the internet, but also on CD-ROM
along with other forms. E-Books might be read either using a computing device with an LED
screen like a traditional computer, a smartphone or a tablet computer; or by means of a portable e-
ink screen device known as an e-book reader, such as the Sony Reader, Barnes & Noble Nook,
Kobo eReader, or even the Amazon Kindle. E-book readers attempt to mimic the experience of
reading a print book by using this technology, since the screens on e-book readers are much less
            reflective.
