What Is Ecology?
Some branches of biology,
such as zoology and botany,
are dedicated to the study of living things.
Other sciences,
such as geology and meteorology,
deal with the nonliving parts of the
environment.
These nonliving parts include the composition of the Earth,
weather phenomena, and volcanoes.
Ecology, however, takes a little from each of these sciences
and looks at the interactions among organisms in a community
and between the community and the environment. In this way,
ecology seeks to explain biodiversity, the distribution of
species, and the way ecosystems function.
It also endeavors to foresee the consequences that might
result from future changes
