A DIFFERENT KIND OF ORCHESTRA

Introduction

In this chapter you will get to know various musical instruments. You will learn to recognize
them and discover what happens when all these musical instruments combined to play
together.

Activity 1

Guess which of the following pictures seems to be accompanied by music. Mark the correct
picture with an X and discuss your thoughts with the teacher and your classmates.

Do you know that the music you just heard is played by some kind of orchestra called a
philharmonic or otherwise a band? When musical instruments and the musicians who play
them come together to play together, then we have the creation of the orchestra. All
orchestras are not the same. There are small and large ones orchestras playing various
genres of music.

Indispensable in every orchestra is the conductor, the musician who stands in front the
orchestra and gives instructions for the best performance of the musical work. And of
course, don't imagine that the conductor is talking! To give instructions he moves his hands
or even his whole body in such a way, so that the rest of the musicians understand what he
wants to say.
