Peppino Impastato

- Giuseppe Impastato was born on 5/01/1948 in Cinisi, near
Palermo.
- He came from a mafia family but, still being young, he
fought with his father and started a cultural-political activity
against the mafia
- In 1965 he founded a journal and helped many farmers
fighting for their freedom
- In 1977 he established a free radio, where he used to report
the crimes and business of the mafia organizations
- He was killed in the night between the 8th and 9th May
1978

- He was assassinated on the night of 8-9 May 1978 by
a bomb near the train tracks.
- During this terrorist act the bomber would have been
the victim of this explosion, who, it was discovered
many months later, and wanted to commit suicide on
that occasion.
- The funeral was attended by about a thousand people
coming mostly from Palermo and neighboring
countries.
