RE-EXAMINATION OF
OSTEOPOROSIS
• What is osteoporosis?
• Osteoporosis is a systemic skeletal disease characterized by low
bone mass and architectural alterations of the bone, leading to an
increased risk of fractures. Such fractures normally occur in the
hip or spine. A person is usually unaware of the disease because
bone loss is gradual and symptom-free. Components of the
evaluation include a bone density test, osteoporosis-directed
medical history and physical exam, laboratory studies, and
possibly skeletal imaging.
