Edward (“Ted”) Diskant is a former federal prosecutor and the co-head of McDermott
Will & Emery LLP’s Global White Collar and Government Investigations Practice.
Ted routinely helps clients conduct sensitive internal investigations and respond to
government inquiries, with a particular focus on matters involving the False Claims
Act (FCA), the anti-bribery laws including the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA),
wire fraud, healthcare fraud, money laundering, and the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA).
An experienced trial lawyer, Ted also regularly takes both criminal and complex civil
cases to trial. As part of his pro bono practice, Ted serves on the Criminal Justice Act
Panel for the Southern District of New York, representing defendants in federal criminal matters, appeals,
and in habeas proceedings.
Prior to joining McDermott, Ted spent nine years at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of
New York, serving from 2018-2021 as Deputy Chief and then Chief of the Public Corruption Unit. Ted also
clerked for the Hon. Debra Ann Livingston, Chief Judge, United States Court of Appeals for the Second
Circuit, and for the Hon. Sidney H. Stein, United States District Court, Southern District of New York.
Christian R. Everdell is a partner at Cohen & Gresser LLP, where he leads the U.S.
Privacy & Data Security group and is a member of the White Collar Defense & Regu-
lation and Litigation & Arbitration practices. He represents companies and individuals
in high-stakes criminal prosecutions, regulatory enforcement actions, internal investi-
gations, and complex civil litigation. Chris regularly represents clients before the DOJ,
SEC, CFTC, and other agencies, and has extensive experience with matters involv-
ing securities and commodities fraud, money laundering, OFAC sanctions, and data
security issues. He has handled some of the most publicized trials in recent years, including serving as
trial counsel for Sam Bankman-Fried, founder of FTX, and Ghislaine Maxwell in their multi-week trials in
the Southern District of New York. Chris has been recognized by Chambers USA and The Legal 500 for
excellence in white collar defense, garnering praise for his strategic vision and knowledge of cybersecurity.
Julia Gatto is a partner at Steptoe LLP where she represents individuals and public and
private companies in criminal matters and government investigations. Prior to joining
Steptoe, between 2008 and 2022, Ms. Gatto was an assistant federal defender at the
Federal Defenders’ office for the Southern District of New York.
Ms. Gatto is a graduate of Georgetown University Law Center and the University of
Michigan.
Justine Harris is a partner at Sher Tremonte LLP representing clients in a wide variety
of high-stakes criminal matters and complex regulatory proceedings. She has served
on the Criminal Justice Act panels of the Southern and Eastern Districts of New
York since 2010. She is Chair of the Board of Directors for the Federal Defenders of
New York, vice-chair of the New York Council of Defense Lawyers, and serves on the
board of the Center for Appellate Litigation. In 2022, Ms. Harris was awarded the Ian
Yankwitt Equalizer Award by Gideon’s Promise in recognition of her compassionate
release work during the pandemic. In 2023, she was inducted into the American College of Trial Lawyers.
Prior to joining Sher Tremonte LLP, Ms. Harris was a partner and co-founder at Colson & Harris LLP and
an assistant federal defender at the Federal Defenders’ office for the Eastern District of New York. Her
