Rainbow Juvenile
MOTORBOATIN
by Tracy Gantz
Motorboatin is well named for the way he motored to his first victory and first stakes win. He proved much the best in the July 19
Rainbow Juvenile at Ruidoso Downs.
When the gate opened, Motorboatin came away
beautifully under jockey Oscar Hernandez. A couple of horses outbroke him, but he had plenty of room to maneuver and catch the leaders. Motorboatin rolled to a 3/4-length victory, getting the 400 yards in :19.927.
Rose Mary Chandler, who bred Motorboatin in Texas, owns him in partnership with Bob McClure & Wendell Chandler. Toby Keeton trains the gelding, who began his career at Sam Houston & then trav- eled to Ruidoso, unplaced in a trial at both tracks. He finished 2nd in his trial to the Rainbow Futurity-G1.
Chandler bred Motorboatin by crossing the winning Thoroughbred mare Trio Gal with Quarter Horse stallion PYC Paint Your Wagon. The mare has produced three winners from nine Quarter Horse starters and one Thoroughbred starter/winner. Her Quarter Horse foals include multiple graded winner Acorn and Trio Effort, the latter third in the 2007 Manor Downs Juvenile Invitational. An earner
of $352,227, Acorn won the 2010 AQHA Derby Challenge Championship-G1 and six other stakes.
Rainbow Futurity trial winner Stel Royal (Stel Corona-Royal Gracie) was 2nd under Joe Badilla Jr. for Regal Racing Stables LLC & trainer Ramon Rivera. G.R. Carter Jr. piloted Undaunted (Corona Cartel-Jess Genuine) to 3rd for owner Undaunted 13 and trainer Brian Muse. Followed by Empty Arms (Tac It Like A Man-Answer The Dream), Nexxus (Tempting Dash- Miss Kips Streakin), Fast Prize Janie (Carters Cartel- Fast Prize Doll), Pampered Jess (Apollitical Jess-The Pampered Side), Suga Tai Can Fly (Tempting Dash- Juanita Mi Amor), JM Mr Evan (Ivory James-Lawanda Fay) & Game Changes (Game Patriot-Xo Kate). CJS Rockhard N Ready & Paint Me Bay scratched.

Aseven-month layoff was no problem for Too Flash For You, as the 4-year-old took the measure of eight New Mexico-breds in the July 26, $50,000 Zia Handicap-RG2 at Ruidoso Downs.
Ridden by Adrian Ramos, Too Flash For You went 400 yards in :19.469, and his winning margin was a head from DM One Hot Charmer. Wes Giles prepped the gelding for owners Jose R. Espinosa and Jim and Michele Laird.
Too Flash For You was making his first start since Dec. 28, when he ran 5th in the 400-yard, $350,000 Championship at Sunland Park-G1.
Raced exclusively in New Mexico, Too Flash For You has won 7 of 17 starts and has earned $999,550, of which $914,834 was banked during a sophomore campaign in which he won 3 stakes, including the $1,920,887 All American Derby-G1.
The gelding was bred in New Mexico by Sarah E. Donaldson-Rioux, who owns and operates Born Running Ranch in Deming.
Too Flash For You is one of seven winners from 11 starters foaled by winner Rare Pie, who was a finalist in the ’96 Blue Ribbon Futurity-G2. Too Flash For You is a 1/2-brother to two stakes-placed runners, including RC Chivato Pie, the runner-up in the 2004 Canada Cup Futurity-RG3 at Lethbridge, Alberta.
DM One Hot Charmer (Corona Caliente-DM Charmer) was 2nd under Omar Reyes for Reed Land and Cattle Co. & trainer Gerald Reed. BK Services’ Reckless Wind (Furyofthewind-Reckless Coin) was 3rd under Jesse Levario for trainer Harvey Baeza. Jess Got Issues (Jesse James Jr-Yo Mamma Got Issues), Handsome Jack Flash (First Moonflash-Shez Jess Nice), Foxy Moonflash (First Moonflash-Diamonds N Rainbows), Moonifisant (Sixes Royal-Nagano Moon), Kia Won (Ketel Won- Major Kia), and Moonstruck Love (First Moonflash- Authorized Love) completed the order of finish.

If TF Cajun Cartel’s record didn’t give bettors enough reason to back him in the July 18 Corona Cartel Stakes at Ruidoso Downs, his pedigree should
have clinched the deal. He was the only one by Corona Cartel, making him worth a hunch bet— and it paid off.
Bettors made TF Cajun Cartel the 4-1 third choice, according 3-2 favoritism to Tenacious. TF Cajun Cartel broke third under jockey Tanner Thedford and then went to the lead in the 440-yard race. He dueled with Absolut Power, edging away to ultimately score by 3/4-length in :21.831.
Fernando Carrete trains TF Cajun Cartel and owns him in partnership with Ascencion Fernandez Jr. The colt sold for $35,000 at the 2013 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale, and last year he won the Rainbow Juvenile Invitational and Dash For Cash Juvenile Invitational.
Steve Tate bred TF Cajun Cartel in Louisiana from unraced Dashadee, a full sister to stakes win- ner Deeheiress and a 1/2-sister to stakes winner Da Edge and Paint Champion Decash. Dashadee has produced six winners from eight starters, including 2009 Firecracker Futurity-G2 winner TF Ms Special Perry. The second dam is Champion Deelish.
Absolut Power (Stoli-Clays Knockout) was 2nd under Cesar Gomez for Ronald Sugamosto & trainer Toby Keeton. Jose Vega piloted Smart Money First (First Smart Money-Beduinos Chick Jet) to 3rd for Victory Farms & trainer Brian Muse. Followed by Thecaptainjacksflash (FDD Dynasty-On The Map), PGF New Beginnings (Heza Fast Man-Opening Bet), Double O Seven B (FDD Dynasty-Stellar Shay), Flowered Up (Jet Black Patriot-Miranda Fame), Tenacious (Coronas Leaving You-Perrys Splash N Dash), Political Report (Apollitical Jess-Sport Report) & Chasin Mojo (Spit Curl Jess-Fast Prize Corona). Bogart & Twntyfour Karat Rock scratched.
