The sire of Beggar Boy and Black Gold was Black Toney. The dam of Black Toney was Belgravia, who was out of Bonnie Gal. Bonnie Gal was out of Bonnie Doon, a 1/2-sister to *Bonnie Scotland. They were both out of Queen Mary.
In order to continue our look at the influence of *Bonnie Scotland, we have to move ahead and look at one of his sons that stood for a while at Belle Meade. His name
is Bramble. The dam of Bramble was Ivy
Leaf by Australian and she was out of Bay Flower by Lexington. Bramble not only stood at Belle Meade, but he was bred by Belle Meade. He was foaled in 1875, was sold, and went through a series of owners. He was then bought back and stood at Belle Meade from 1882 to 1891. He died in 1901 on the farm of Eugene Leigh of Lexington, Kentucky.
Bramble was the sire of Ben Brush. Ben Brush was foaled in 1893 and his dam was Roseville by Reform. The dam of Roseville was Albia by Alarm. Ben Brush won the Kentucky Derby in 1896. His greatest legacy is through his descendants. Ben Brush was the sire of Belgravia, the dam of Black Toney.
Ben Brush is the sire of Broomstick, who is the sire of Whiskbroom II. Whiskbroom II was the sire of Chimney Sweep. You will find that Chimney Sweep was a major ingredient in the pedigrees of many of the Wiescamp and Shoemaker bred horses. Chimney Sweep was the sire of Brush Mount. Brush Mount sired such noted horses as Gold Mount, who sired the great race mare Maddon’s Bright Eyes. She was the AQHA Racing Champion Mare from 1949 to 1951. Her produce included Bright Bar, Bright Red and Me Bright. Me Bright is the dam of horses like Johnny Boone and Me Gotta Go.
Broomstick also sired the mares Swinging, Frillery, Remembrance, and Shady. Swinging was the dam of Equipoise. Frillery was the dam of Frilette. Frilette was the dam of Equestrian. Equestrian was the sire of Top Deck. Remembrance was the dam of Wendy, the dam of Chicaro. Chicaro was the sire of River Boat, the dam of Top Deck. Shady was the dam of Taps. Taps was the dam of Last Boat. Last Boat was the dam of River Boat, the dam of Top Deck. This gives Top Deck four crosses to Broomstick with a breeding pattern of 4 X 4 X 5 X 5. Top Deck was the sire of such noted horses as Go Man Go and Moon Deck, the sire of Jet Deck.
Ben Brush was the sire of Sweep, who was the sire of Eternal. Eternal was the sire of Ariel, who was the sire of AQHA Racing Champion Piggin String. Piggin String was the sire of AQHA Racing Champion Rukin String, who was a sire for Hank Wiescamp.
One of the prominent stallions used by Hank Wiescamp was the Quarter Horse Plaudit. Plaudit was sired by King Plaudit (TB), who was out of Wild Thistle. Wild Thistle was out of Galliard and Galliard was out of Glidelia by *Bonnie Scotland. The stallion Gold Mount that we looked at earlier in our discussion was out of Miss Helen by Plaudit.
The next stallion on our list is Enquirer. This stallion was bred by H. F. Vissman. He was foaled in 1867 and was named for the newspaper the “Cincinnati Enquirer.” He was sired by *Leamington by Faugh-A-Ballagh
by Sir Hercules. Faugh-A-Ballagh was a full brother to Irish Birdcatcher. Irish Birdcatcher was the sire of The Baron, the sire of Stockwell and Rataplan. Sir Hercules was sired by Whalebone. The dam of Enquirer was Lida by Lexington and she was out of Lize by American Eclipse.
Enquirer was a good racehorse that was named the “best three year old” in 1870. Wills indicates that Enquirer was “ranked as Leamington’s best son as a racehorse and as a sire.” He came to Belle Meade in 1879. He died in September of 1895.
Enquirer brings us back to the influence of Bonnie Joe and Domino. Bonnie Joe was sired by Faustus. Faustus was sired by Enquirer. Faustus was the full brother to Mannie Gray, the dam of Domino. Thus, Enquirer plays a major role in the Domino influence that appears in such noted horses as Three Bars, Leo, and many more to numerous to list here.
It has to be noted that Three Bars was linebred to Domino, he carried a cross to Ben Brush, and he was a great cross on
Leo, who carried three crosses to Domino through High Time in his pedigree. Leo was a direct descendant of Bonnie Joe. Another descendant of Bonnie Joe was Oklahoma Star P-6. The dam of Oklahoma Star P-6 is often listed as Cutthroat by Bonnie Joe.
When we combine Leo and Oklahoma Star P-6, we find a great nick in our industry. A leading example of this nick is AQHA World Champion Miss Meyers, who in
turn is the dam of horses like Mr Meyers
(by Go Man Go), Kid Meyers (the first AQHA Supreme Champion), and Oh
My Oh. Kid Meyers is the sire of the All American Futurity winner Mr Kid Charge. Oh My Oh is the dam of the All American Futurity winner Three Ohs and Callmecutie. Callmecutie is the dam of the great
Justanold Love, winner of the Champion of Champions-G1.
The last stallion we will look at is Iroquois, the first American bred racehorse to win the English Derby. He was bred by Mr. A. Welch,
The great Quarter Horse stallion Joak (shown here) traces back to Bonnie Scotland through his daughter Bonnie Rose.
       Oklahoma Star (shown
here), from the Ronald Mason breeding program and believed to trace back to Bonnie Scotland, is the broodmare sire of such Quarter Horse runners as Champion Miss Meyers.
Broomstick (shown here), who traces back to Bramble, is in the pedigrees of such horses as 2-time AQHA World Champion Maddon’s Bright Eyes.
