Junos Request Stakes-G1
FABULOUS RACHEL
by Michael Cusortelli
Making her first start at the 400-yard distance, Darling Farms’ Fabulous Rachel won the $119,120 Junos Request Stakes-G1 at
Remington Park on closing day June 3. Fabulous Rachel defeated A Dream To Fill,
who broke on top and lead through the first call, by a neck in :19.350 while aided by a reported 6-mph tail wind.
Juan Pulido rode the 4-year-old One Fabulous Eagle sorrel filly for trainer
Waylan Melton.
Fabulous Rachel was stretching out in distance
off of her fifth-place finish, 1/2-length behind winner Sassalitical, in the 350-yard Easy Date Stakes-G3 at Remington Park on April 22. She previously won the 2022 Gillespie County
Fair Derby, was second in 2023 Decketta Stakes-G2 by a neck, and was a finalist in
the 2022 Oklahoma Horsemen’s Association Mystery Derby.
Fabulous Rachel was bred in Oklahoma
by Juan A. Medina. She is out of 9-year-old Teller Baja, who won the 2016 Remington Park Futurity-RG2 and earned $464,317 racing.
Fabulous Rachel is a 1/2-sister to 2022 Speedhorse Futurity-G3 winner Teller Ima Eagle. After suffering a life threatening injury back in
2019, Becky Kincaid of Darling Companies said, “We were hoping we could save her to have a broodmare. I never dreamed that the horse could run.”
And run she did. Racing in two states, including Oklahoma and New Mexico, the filly has won four of eight starts with two second place finishes, and the $71,730 winner’s share from her second career stakes victory increased her bankroll to $139,564.
A Dream To Fill (Apollitical Jess-Answer The Dream) is a homebred three-year-old filly racing for Kelly Yother Equine LLC. Jesus Salazar rode the chestnut filly for trainer Dee Keener.
Ruse Ranch LLC’s Pops First Lady (Apollitical Jess-Shazooms Pop Pop) finished third, 3/4-lengths behind Fabulous Rachel. Edwin Escobedo rode the multiple Graded stakes winning five-year-old mare for trainer Robi Meche.
Jess Give Mea Reason (Good Reason SA-Send Me This Wagon), Jess Special Folly V (Apollitical Jess-Special Folly Dash), Sweet Dasha Fire (Walk Thru Fire-Dasha Freda) , Jessapolliticalgirl (Apollitical Jess-Kirklyns Dynasty), Sassalitical (Apollitical Jess-Jess Sass Me), Sweet Brown Sugar (Dashair- Jumpn Form), and Glamazon (A Revenant- Eat The Fish) followed.
