  PRECIOUS LOOKER
Making just her second career start, Precious Looker held on at the wire to win the February 2, $85,000 Enchantress Stakes (R) for New Mexico-bred 3-year-old fillies at Sunland Park.
Precious Looker covered 6 furlongs in 1:40.18, and her margin of victory was a
nose from 8-5 favorite Singing Mary. Casey Chavez rode the dark bay or brown daughter of Tailfromthecrypt for owners Philip J. Wood and Jim Hailey, and trainer Gerald E. Marr, who also bred the filly.
Precious Looker made her debut with a
7 1/2-length victory in a 6-furlong, $32,000 maiden-special-weight race for state-bred 2-year-old fillies at Zia Park on December 19. The filly is one of 18 winners from 29 starters sired by Tailfromthecrypt, a winning Kentucky-bred son of the Fappiano stallion Cryptoclearance.
Tailfromthecrypt raced from 2000-05 and earned $281,327 from 42 outs. A full brother to Coconut Girl, the winner of the ’04 Desert Stormer Handicap (G3) at Hollywood Park, Tailfromthecrypt has sired the earners of more
than $779,000 from 11 crops. Precious Looker is also one of three
winners from as many starters produced by Precious Bay Queen, a winning homebred daughter of Saint Ballado stallion Bay Head King. The filly is a full sister to King Of Art, a Tailfromthecrypt gelding who ran third in two stakes in 2016, including the 1 1/16-mile, $100,000 New Mexico Breeders’ Derby (R) at Sunland Park.
Precious Looker traces back to her fifth dam, Tammy Steen, a winning daughter of the Great Host stallion Great Pacific who foaled the stakes-placed Metropolis colt Metrotan.
Precious Looker has won both of her outs, and the $51,000 winner’s share of the Enchantress Stakes purse pushed the filly’s bankroll to $70,500.
Reina Del Norte finished third, three lengths behind runner-up Singing Mary, and was followed by M G M’s Victoria, Tell Me Nighty, and Shesa Goldigger.
Singing Mary was coming off of a two- length victory in a 6-furlong, $12,500 non-winners-of-three claiming sprint for New
Mexico-bred fillies on January 6. A dark bay or brown daughter of Song Of Navarone owned by Henry Dominguez and Alfred Alvarado, the filly has won three of six outs and has earned $34,230, of which $26,600 has been banked this season.
Reina Del Norte races for Miguel L. Gallegos of Albuquerque, who also bred the dark bay or brown daughter of the A.P. Indy stallion Harris. The filly has earned $23,030 from four starts, all in New Mexico.
