                                 Shue Fly Stakes (RG2)
Sixth-fastest qualifier Ryansmanonthemoon, campaigned by Jimmy Negrete and Jimmy Vasquez, broke sharply from his rail post and sprinted on to win the Jan. 26, $211,142 Shue Fly Stakes (RG2) for New Mexico-bred 3-year-olds at Sunland Park.
Ridden by Mauro Salcedo for trainer Cynthia Gonzalez, Ryansmanonthemoon went 400 yards in :19.309 and posted a 96 speed index while aided by a reported 7-mph tail wind. The homebred gelding earned $99,237 from his third win in 11 starts and first stakes victory.
Ryansmanonthemoon finished second, a neck behind winner Freedom Flash, in one of five Shue Fly trials on Jan. 4. The gelding’s sire, First Moonflash, is a 14-year-old son of First To Flash. Racing from 2007-09, First Moonflash banked $969,828 from 25 outs, winning 10 graded stakes and was the 2009 AQHA champion aged stallion.
First Moonflash has sired the earners of more than $15.1 million from seven crops, including champions Handsome Jack Flash, Foxy Moonflash and Flash And Roll. He has also sired graded stakes winners Too Flash For You, Mad About The Moon and A Passion For Flashn. First Moonflash was the sport’s leading freshman sire in 2013. and Moonifisant, the stallion is owned by a
partnership and stands for a $10,000 fee at W.L. and Dee Mooring’s Double LL Farm at Bosque, New Mexico.
Ryansmanonthemoon is out of Girlonthego, a 7-year-old daughter of Man On The Move who was purchased as a yearling by Negrete and Vasquez for $20,000 at the 2013 New Mexico- Bred Sale. Racing in 2014, Girlonthego earned $174,146 from six starts and won the $392,253 Zia Futurity (RG1) at Ruidoso Downs.
Ryansmanonthemoon’s third dam, the winning and stakes-placed Kiptys Charger mare Kiptys Wish, was a finalist in the 1991 Bandera Downs (G2) and Manor Downs (G3) derbies in Texas.
Raced exclusively in New Mexico, Ryansmanonthemoon has banked $142,917. The gelding broke his maiden in a 350-yard, $10,000 maiden-special-weight dash for state-breds at Ruidoso Downs in July, and he ended his juvenile campaign with a 1/2-length victory in a 400- yard, $46,000 open-condition allowance for New Mexico-breds at Zia Park on Dec. 9.
Ninth-fastest qualifier CD Mamas
Boy finished second, a neck behind Ryansmanonthemoon. Woodys Copy Cat, Saul, Freedom Flash, Igotmybiggirljeanson, Vintage Vaquera, fastest qualifier Hs Paul Walker, CD Flash And Fame and El Red com- pleted the official order of finish.
CD Mamas Boy is a sorrel son of First Moonflash racing for Daniel Ramirez. The gelding has won two of six starts, and the $38,006 runner-up share of the Shue Fly purse pushed his earnings to $89,214. His resume includes a third-place run, a half of a length behind winner Jess Fire Chick, in last year’s 400-yard, $410,000 Zia Futurity (RG1).
Woodys Copy Cat has earned $269,294 from nine races for owner Enrique Barrera, who acquired the brown daughter of Woodbridge as a yearling for $4,700 at the 2017 New Mexico-Bred Sale at Ruidoso Downs. The filly’s juvenile campaign included a 1/2-length victory in the 400-yard, $315,000 New Mexico Cup Futurity (RG2) at Zia Park, and a second- place finish, a neck behind winner Zee James, in the 300-yard, $397,000 New Mexican Spring Futurity (RG2) at Sunland Park.
