Fast Stripper was another Bud Warren bred horse. Her sire was Sugar Bars, and her dam was a King P-234 daughter named 89’er. This gives Fast Fling a breeding pattern of 3x2 to Sugar Bars and this reminds me of the great barrel sire Flit Bar. He was sired by Sugar Bars and out of Flit by Leo. Connie Reba, the dam of Calamity Jones was a 3/4 sister to Flit Bar.
Moon Beam Lady was the dam of Moon Fling. This mare was unraced. She is the dam of 16 foals with 13 starters with eight ROM and one stakes winner. The stakes winner was Moon Fling. Her sire was Lady Bug’s Moon, who had 23 starts with eleven wins, five seconds and three thirds earning $191,536. He won the 1968 Kansas Futurity and the 1969 Rainbow Derby. He was second in the 1968 Rainbow Futurity and the 1968 All American Futurity.
Lady Bug’s Moon became the sire of horses that won $4,031,691 with 770 starters, 502 ROM, 40 stakes winners and 44 stakes placed runners. His leading money earner is Shawne Bug, winner of the 1976 Blue Ribbon Futurity and the 1977 Rocky Mountain QH Derby. He was second in the 1977 All American Derby, third in both the Rainbow Derby and Kansas
Derby. Shawne Bug is the sire of horses that have won $4,854,465 and the broodmare sire of horses that have won $14,263,809. Shawne Bug is the sire of Shawne Bug Leo, sire of barrel horses that have won $1.1 million including NFR qualifier Heza Bug Leo earnings of $325,000. Shawne Bug is also the broodmare sire of Darkelly, the sire of barrel racers that have won $2,199,403 with his leading money earner being CP Dark Moon, winner of $1,003,168.
Lady Bug’s Moon was sired by Top Moon by Moon Deck and out of Rica Bar by Barred. Top Moon was a 7/8-brother to Jet Deck. So, with A Streak Of Fling’s breeding pattern of 4x4 to Jet Deck, we can add Top Moon and get a 4x4x4 breeding pattern, giving us a collateral linebreeding. Collateral relatives are full brothers and/or sisters, three quarter brothers and/or sisters and in this case the seven eighth brothers Jet Deck and Top Moon.
The dam of Moon Beam Lady was Midnight Penny. She was sired by Roan Midnight by Waggoner by Midnight, and she was out of a mare named Runty by Billy by Red Bug.
THE BARREL SIRE
We have seen the pedigree side of A Streak Of Fling and his genetic ties to some popular barrel racing bloodlines. Now, let’s
look at what Brian and Lisa found when the Streaker foals ran the barrels. Lisa explained it this way. “The Streaker foals are catty, and they are really good at using their feet. We had sponsored the BFA, which was usually held during the NFR, and we were making both of them. We went to the BFA first, and they came out with the new ghosting videos watching two horses running side by side. Brian was enthralled by that, and we purchased six or eight copies. He picked the horses to run side by side with Streaker’s foals. Then we went to the NFR, and we came home, he must have replayed those videos I don’t know how many times. It was like he was in a kid in a candy store. He explained
to me, ‘Just watch how the Streakers use their hind end. They can take three steps around a barrel quicker than some of those other bigger horses.’”
She went on to explain using the Dash Ta Fame horses as an example that they take more to get around the barrel but make up for it because they “catch a lot of speed in the run.” She feels this is a key to Streaker’s best cross in the Equi-Stat Magic Cross when crossed on Dash Ta Fame mares. It is the complimentary effect of
