The June issue of Speedhorse is set aside each year to honor the broodmares in our industry. Speedhorse recognized the significance of the mare many years ago and the role they play in the development of their foals by naming a Broodmare of the Year. The American Quarter Horse Association and Speedhorse joined forces for several years to name a Broodmare of the Year, and then Speedhorse carried on by focusing on the mare as an integral part of raising good horses.
The task of naming a Broodmare of the Year is based on a nomination process that makes a mare eligible for the Broodmare
of the Year using four categories. The categories are the Dams of the Champions, the Top Five Dams by Money Earned,
the Top Five Dams by Stakes Winners ranked first by number of Stakes Winners and next by Money Earned, and the Top Five Dams by Stakes Wins ranked first by number of Stakes Wins and next by Money Earned. The nominated mares are then ranked with the point system based on their position in each category. A key factor in this nomination process is that it highlights many of the mares that were successful each
year. This year saw 20 mares vie for the Broodmare of the Year title and they were featured in the April issue of Speedhorse. The program highlights the mares in general, with the mare scoring the most points overall earning the title of Broodmare of the Year.
Remember Me Rose is the 2021 Broodmare of the Year, and this makes
her a two-time winner of this prestigious award. She was also the 2019 Broodmare
of the Year. She won her 2021 title with
the efforts of her foals: Powerful Favorite,
the winner of the 2021 Brad McKinzie Winter Championship-G1 and the Robert
L. Boniface Los Alamitos Invitational Championship-G1; Bomb Cyclone, winner of the 2021 Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity-G1; Go To Girl, winner of the 2021 Chiquita Stakes; Runforyourlife, second in the 2021 First Day of Spring Stakes; Cyber Monday, fifth in the 2021 Rainbow Derby Invitational; and the 2021 money earners Majority Interest and Remember You. These runners include three stakes winners that won four stakes races and earned $1,186,610.
The first time we featured this mare we looked at her history as a runner and
how she came to be a broodmare. We will review much of this information but this time we will focus at the end on her nick with the leading sire Favorite Cartel.
Favorite Cartel, who is the sire of the majority of the 2021 runners out of Remember Me Rose.
