The Burns Ranch of Menifee, California, is the home of Remember Me Rose. Dr. Burns recalled this about buying her, “Remember Me Rose was a famous
race mare. She was in a sheriff ’s dispersal, and my good buddy James Markum and I bought her at that sale. She hadn’t produced much to that point, but she crossed really good with Favorite Cartel, so we got her in the right spot.”
Remember Me Rose was bred in Oklahoma, by the MLA International Company. She was purchased as yearling
by Azoom LP of Veracruz, Mexico, and she raced in their colors. After her race career, she changed hands several times, first going to Tremor Enterprises LLC in 2010, and to 66 Land LLC in 2012. James Markum and Dr. Steve Burns bought her in late 2012, with Burns taking sole ownership in 2015.
The race career for Remember Me Rose started in Mexico City, winning her first stakes in the Mexico Juvenile Challenge. She made her next start in the Rainbow Futurity trials, which she won and then came in second in the Grade 1 finals.
Her next start came in the All American Futurity-G1 trials, where she finished second and qualified for the finals to finish fifth in those. The next start for Remember Me Rose was a win in the AQHA Juvenile Challenge Championship-G2 at Lone
Star Park. She came back in her next start at Zia Park to win the Southwest Juvenile Championship. Then she went
into the trials of the Sunland Park Winter Futurity-G2, securing a win in the those and qualifying for the finals.
A win in the Sunland Park Winter Futurity-G2 started 2007, as the finals for this race were run in January of that year. She did not return to the races until May with a fourth in the trials of the Ruidoso Derby to qualify and then win the Grade
1 finals. The All American Derby-G1 trials came in August, where she finished third and didn’t qualify for the finals. She was then off to Lone Star Park where she won her trial for the Texas Classic Derby-G1
and finished second in the finals. Her next start came in The Championship at Sunland Park-G1, where she finished second. The race career for Remember Me Rose ended
in 2008, with two fourth place finishes at Remington Park in the Leo Stakes-G1 and Sooner Stakes-RG1. Her total record shows 18 starts with nine wins, four seconds and one third, earning $820,895.
The pedigree of Remember Me Rose is an interesting one as she has no duplication of ancestors in five-generations. I find that to be an interesting feature of her pedigree. She is sired by Corona Cartel and is out
of Im Moonlighting by Zevi TB. Corona Cartel has a similar situation in that he has only the duplication of one ancestor with his 5x4x5 breeding pattern to Jet Deck. Im Moonlighting has only one duplication of an ancestor in her pedigree and that comes through her dam, who has a breeding
pattern of 4x3 to Three Bars TB. This gives Remember Me Rose a hybrid type of pedigree.
Corona Cartel was a three-time
stakes winner in the 1996 Los Alamitos Million Futurity-G1, 1996 Kindergarten Futurity-G2 and 1996 Tiny’s Gay Handicap. He earned $557,142. Corona Cartel is the sire of horses that have won over $66 million, making him the #2 All-Time Leading Sire of Money Earners. His leading money earners include World Champion Blues Girl Too, and the Champions Teller Cartel, Five Bar Cartel, Flying Fig, Uncle D, Carters Cartel, Coronas First Diva, Time For A Cigar
and Significant Heart. Corona Cartel is the broodmare sire of horses that have earned over $73 million, making him the #4 all-time leading maternal grandsire of money earners. His leading money earners as a broodmare sire include 2018 World Champion Bodacious Eagle ($1,293,444).
The sire of Corona Cartel is Holland Ease, winner of the 1992 Golden State Derby-G1. Holland Ease sired the earners of over $12 million including the 1996 Champion Two-Year-Old Filly Haulin Pass. Holland Ease is the broodmare sire of horses that have won over $12 million. His leading money earner is All American Futurity-G1 winner Apocalyptical Jess, the 2018 AQHA Champion 2-Year-Old Gelding and the 2019 AQHA Champion 3 Year Old and Champion 3-Year-Old Gelding. The sire
