While at CSU, she met Vaughn Cook, who ran the university’s
stallion lab and was a guest lecturer
in several of Laura’s reproduction classes. So, after she graduated in
1994 with a bachelor’s degree in equine science, she approached Vaughn and his veterinarian wife, Jill, who had launched Royal Vista Equine in Fort Collins in 1990.
“We were in a new business, and
it was just Vaughn and myself, with my mom helping us in the office,” Jill says. “Laura was enthusiastic and knew that she needed to learn more. So she came in and offered to work for two weeks and if we liked her at the end, she’d love to have a position; if not, we wouldn’t owe her anything.
