Dear Members,
We have made some pretty significant
changes to our program this year that every-
one needs to be aware of. First of all, you need
to know starting with foals born in 2019, the Quarter Horse Breeder of record is the owner
of the broodmare at time of conception. The Thoroughbred breeder will remain the same and is the person who owned the broodmare at time of foaling. Before foals of 2019, the breeder of record is the person who owned the broodmare at time of foaling for both breeds. Remember to register your foals with us no later than Decem- ber 31, 2019, before they age and the fee goes up.
Another big change we have made this year is that starting on June 14, 2019, all owners will have to be a member of the NMHBA within 90 days of a New Mexico Bred com-
ing in 1st, 2nd or 3rd to receive your award
for that race. We are sending out letters and membership applications to those owners who are not current and are giving them a deadline. One week before that deadline, if we have not received a membership, we are trying to contact that person by phone to remind them. The award will be forfeited after 90 days if we have not received a membership for that owner. Also starting on June 14, 2019, breeders will receive an award for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd instead of just 1st place finishers.

races held at Zia Park on October 27th. There were some really exciting races and even a couple of dead heats! I enjoyed visiting with many of you at my booth up in the Turf Club. It is still the biggest day of racing for state breds in the country with purses totaling over $2 million!
Please mark your calendars to attend our Annual Meeting which will be held at the Ramada Plaza Hotel located at 2020 Menaul Blvd. NE in Albuquerque on Thursday, January 30, 2020. The meeting is tentatively
scheduled from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and will include lunch. We have decided to change things up a bit and plan to have our Awards Banquet later in the year. We will keep you up- dated on the details as they become available.
