Cardiac Cowboy lived up to his name with a heart-pounding come-from- behind victory in the $203,820 Valley
Junction Futurity-G3 at Prairie Meadows on Sept. 29.
A three-time futurity finalist, Cardiac Cowboy broke through with his first stakes tally in the Valley Junction. Ridden by Ramiro Garcia, Cardiac Cowboy raced toward the back of the pack in eighth during the early stages of the 350-yard fixture. The brown gelding dug in gamely in the lane, rallying past the field en route to a half-length score at the finish. He covered the distance in :17.519, earning a speed index of 98 in the facile score.
A homebred for Jo Rice, Cardiac Cowboy is trained by Jason Olmstead. With the victory, Cardiac Cowboy improved his record to 7-4-1-1, and the $91,719 winner’s share of the purse increased his bankroll to $196,610.
