In addition to his stakes tally, Cardiac Cowboy finished third in the Prairie Meadows Gold Futurity in July and was sixth in the Heritage Place Futurity-G1 in June. Bred in Oklahoma, Cardiac Cowboy is produced from the Carters Cartel mare Southard Cartel.
“This was my first trip to Prairie Meadows this year because we thought he had a good chance to win,” shared Jo Rice. “He had a really good time for the Prairie Meadows Gold Futurity, but he drew the one hole for the final. We had planned on going to that race, but when he drew the one hole, we decided not to go. He ran about how I expected in that one (third-place finish). When he drew nine hole for this one, we had a good feeling about it.
“It is really special to win (a stakes race) with a homebred,” she added. “We have had some success—we won the Heritage Place Futurity-G2 in 1986 with Hiclass Girl and then again with
A Chick of Class, a daughter of Hiclass Girl,
in 2003. I don’t breed that many, keeping a broodmare band of between four or five, but I spend a lot of time planning the matings and trying to figure out the best crosses for them.”
Olmstead also saddled second-place finisher Sheza Famous Candy (One Famous Eagle-Send Me Special), the race favorite and fastest qualifier. Ridden by Edwin Escobedo, Sheza Famous Candy, a four-time winner, is owned by Thomas Scheckel and was bred in California by S-Quarter K, LLC. The brown filly captured the Prairie Meadows Juvenile Challenge Stakes in August.
Little Barbie Tales (Wagon Tales-Little Kool Barbie) and jockey James Flores flashed speed early and held third for owners Leann Burns and Thomas Lepic. Stacy Charette-Hill trains the bay filly who won her trial heat on Sept. 10 to break her maiden in her fifth career start. Little Barbie Tales was bred in Oklahoma by Stacy Hill and Vicki Tebow.
Hamlyn (Hes Relentless-Itea), Lipstick Lou (Jess Louisiana Blue-Paint Your Lipes Red), Paint Me Downhill (PYC Paint Your Wagon- Easy Downhill), Eysa Ivory Girl (Ivory James- Valiant Curl Girl), KVN A Streakin (KVN Corona-Legacys A Streakin), Skipp To My Lew (Big Lew-Ferarri Fast Prize), and Miss Triana (A Royal Jess-The Black Ghost) completed the order of finish.
