RACING NEWS
MR CORONA PERRY
by Luis Prieto Zamudio, translation by Speedhorse
In this stakes race dedicated to the horseman Alfredo Castro Rea, 10 two year olds participated and all were bred in the United
States. Jess Luna, from the San Luis Aculo stable, was withdrawn.
On Sept. 24, this race was contested over 350 yards with a purse of $826,500 pesos ($47,358 U.S. approx.), where the bets favored the bay colt Mr Corona Perry, despite the
fact that Cuadra Los Gavilanes registered a powerful entry of A Fiery Moon, Into Glory and Going Gone.
The race was clean for everyone, although Turia Alas stood out starting from the
6-gate and deviating to the right looking
for the outside rail. The rest of the field flowed in order, with Mr Corona Perry at
the front running very close to the inside
rail and making a comfortable run under the command of Alejandro Gomez Diaz.
They remained unchallenged as they on the course, crossing the finish line 3/4-length ahead of the LA Eagle Five in a time of :17.86 on a fast track, despite the nosebleed that was
observed upon returning to the awards ceremony.
Alfredo Castro Rea,
Jr. and his family were present at the ceremony to award the winning colt, which belongs to Santa Elena Stable where he is trained by Joaquín Ramón Peláez Cortes, who also accompanied by his family.
This was the sixth start
for Mr Corona Perry and
marked his fourth victory and second stakes win as he also won the AQHA Mexico Juvenile Challenge. He was also a finalist in the Jodys Glory Classic where he finished in fourth place.
Mr Corona Perry is a son of Mr Jess Perry and out of the mare Samba Corona MV
by Corona Cartel. He was bred by Joaquín Ramón Peláez Cortes.
La Eagle Five (Five Bar Cartel-La Eagle) placed second under the Aarón Adrián
Gómez. The filly is owned by Cuadra JJ and was saddled by trainer Fermín Uriarte Salas. The filly was a finalist in the Jodys Glory Classic.
In third place was You Dew (KVN Corona-High Valley Girl) ridden by Luis Alberto Fernandez for trainer Alberto Fernandez Pasten and owner Cuadra TD. He finished third in the AQHA
Mexico Juvenile Challenge and was a finalist in the Jodys Glory Classic.
Docs Dashing Gipsy (Docs Best Card-BP Dashing Suzie), One More Episode (One Valiant Hero-One Corona Episode), A Fiery Moon (Moonin The Eagle-Eye This Candy), Going Gone (Seperate Interest-Going Single), Into Glory (Into Mischief TB-A Shot Of Glory) and Turia Alas (Send A Candy Guy-Slew Of The Night) completed the order of finish.
