Bugs Alive In 75 Stakes
SEND A CANDY GUY
by John Moorehouse
Astrong and steady run from the outside reaped the first-ever win in stakes com- pany for Send A Candy Guy, who emerged victorious from the $34,250 Bugs Alive In 75 Stakes on May 20 at Remington Park.
In his previous out, Send A Candy Guy finished fifth in the Remington Park Juvenile Stakes, an April 14 event with a six-figure purse. There was no stopping Carl Pevehouse’s home-bred 2-year-old colt
this time.
Send A Candy Guy drew the outside starting posi- tion of the eight-horse field. Though he didn’t break best, Send A Candy Guy came on strong during the 300-yard competition, catching up to early leader Purr Country and making it to the wire first by a half-length.
Conditioned by trainer Clinton Crawford, Send A
Candy Guy finished the event in :15.285 and posted a 93 speed index. Jockey Tony Bennett was aboard.
Pevehouse, the leading owner at this
year’s Remington Park meet entering the final week of May, collected a $20,100 payday that boosted the colt’s career bankroll to $35,992. Pevehouse also bred Send The Guys Candy,
a lightly-raced 1989 mare who has 11 starters
among 13 total offspring. Two members of that brood now hold stakes victories. This Candys Okay, a half- sister to Send The Guys Candy, claimed victory in two futurities at Blue Ribbon Downs during the 2007 campaign as highlights in a nine-win career that brought home more than $200,000 in prize money. Send The Guys Candy is a sister to graded stakes winner Send The Gals
Candy, and a half-sister to stakes winners Send Me The Candy and Call Me Candy Man. Send A Candy Guy’s second dam is Pevehouse’s foundation mare Send Me Candy.
Purr Country (Country Chicks Man-Purr D Cat), a 20-1 longshot, finished a surpris- ing second for owner Gabriella Brogna. The colt is trained by Kevin Willis and had jockey Kenny Muntz up. Eddie Willis trains Cartel Dynasty (FDD Dynasty-Shake Cartel), who finished third by a head. The gelding is owned by James Sills and Abel Flores. Jockey Jimmy Brooks drew the riding assignment.
The remaining order of finish was Wash And Press (Azoom-Jess Press), JC Wants A Corona (Ivory James-A Flyin Furr Holme), Bring N The Heat (Corona Cartel-First Black Rose), Whoppie Wagon (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Bams Bug) and I V Gone (Ivory James-Bye Bye Bygones).

Heritage Place Juvenile
GENERATING CASH
by Stacy Pigott
Talented 2-year-olds who did not qualify for Remington Park’s million-dollar Heritage Place Futurity-G1 had their stakes opportu- nity on May 26 in the $75,000 Heritage Place Juvenile, won by Generating Cash.
Ridden by Stormy Smith, Generating Cash left the one hole a step behind early leader Wild And Game. Dueling with that rival through the early stages of the 350-yard race, Generating Cash gained the
advantage by mid-stretch, and drew off to a half-length win over Wild And Game at the wire.
Trained by Ed Hardy, Generating Cash stopped
the clock in :17.643 while posting an 89 speed index. As the 8-1 fourth choice
in the wagering, the grey gelding sent home a winner’s check of $21,803 to owner EJ Partnership, of Austin, Texas.
The win was the first career score for Generating Cash, who had finished second, three lengths behind the sharp PYC Kant Katch Me, in his qualifying trial for the Heritage Place Futurity. Prior to that, he was also second in a maiden race on March 25 when making his racetrack debut.
A son of Wave Carver from the Streakin Six mare Wasting No Time, Generating Cash
was bred in Texas by Bob
and Jerry Gaston. Hardy
had purchased Generating Cash for $17,000 at the 2011 Heritage Place Yearling Sale. His dam, Wasting No Time, is a half-sister to Champion Sixy Chick and the dam of several stakes winners includ- ing Wasting No Cash and Timeless Favorite, and the stakes-placed winners Some Waste Time, Corona Cerveza, Heza Two Timing Man, and
Chicory Glass (dam of Champion Gotta Get). Wild And Game (Game Patriot-Wild Six) settled for second under jockey David Pinon.
Eddie D. Willis trains the filly, who has now finished second in all three of her career starts for owner Samuel A. Valeriano.
Making a huge late run to finished third at odds of 33-1 was Nellie Delaney (FDD Dynasty- Fleeting Touch). Charlie Hunt trains the filly
for owners/breeders J. Garvan Kelly and Nancy Yearsley. Cody Jensen was in the irons.
Following the top three were Feature Hero (Valiant Hero-Illegal Feature), JB James (Ivory James-Deans Dusty Bunny), Jess Call Me Valiant (Valiant Hero-Jess Sass Me), Natovas Courage (Captain Courage-Natovas Dasher), and Coyote James (Ivory James-Blooming Bell). Madresita and Wontchadancewithme were scratched.
