National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum Stakes-G1
BARNEY OFIELD
by Tracy Gantz
Paint Horse Barney Ofield had already demonstrated his quickness in capturing the 2011 champion Paint solid aged horse and
gelding title. He proved it further by setting
a new Paint world record for 440 yards in the May 19 National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum Stakes at Remington Park.
Breaking from post four under Kenny Muntz, Barney Ofield withstood some tight- ening up from horses to
his inside and outside, but
he quickly outran them.
Flashthechicks matched strides
with Barney Ofield, who
also had to hold off PF Chief
Runnin Bear’s late run. He did
so to win by a neck in :21.321.
That time beat the world Paint mark of :21.478 set by all-time leading Paint earner Got Country Grip in the 2009 edition of this race.
Trained by Eddie L.
Willis for his wife, Joni, and Julie Haywood, Barney Ofield in his last start had captured the Mister Lewie Paint and Appaloosa Memorial Handicap-G1 for the second straight time. The 6-year-old gelding had earlier won the 2010 TPHBA Paint and Appaloosa Maturity-G3 and 2011 Green Country Handicap.
Breeders Bill and Marion Hoskin raced Barney Ofield initially and
sold him at age 4 to his current owners. They bred him from Shero, who has produced four winners from five starters, including 2012 Oklahoma Paint Futurity-G1 winner Laus Deo and stakes- placed Bailout and Spotless Redneck. Shero’s full sister Runaway Rosie is a champion Paint and stakes winner.
Jeremy Garcia piloted PF Chief Runnin Bear APHA
(Grand Point-SC Running Cloud) to second for trainer Judd Kearl and owners Sherry Koltiska and Lynn and Betty Bettinger. PF Chief Runnin Bear is a two-time world cham- pion Paint.
Shirley Wheeler’s homebred Flashthechicks APHA (SF Royal Quick Flash-Game Chicken), who finished third as the even-money favorite, is also a world champion Paint. G.R. Carter Jr. rode him for trainer Luis Villafranco.
Completing the field were Special
Sign APHA (Special Leader-Signs Of Summer), Flashy Dos APHA (Dos Poruno- Kaywantsafastone), The Cock Of The Walk APHA (SF Royal Quick Flash-Corona Lace), Moon Bully ApHC (Man With The Power-TB Fancy Moon), Captain Bucko ApHC (Cartel Success-Joyball), and Blast The Cash APHA (Sweet First Down-Bag The Cash).

 Easy Jet Stakes-RG3
EYEGOTITGOINON
by John Moorehouse
Eyegotitgoinon stayed out of trouble and sprinted to a surprising victory in the $50,000 Easy Jet Stakes on May 20 at
Remington Park, collecting his second win in as many outs for owner Raymundo Villarreal Jr.
Breaking from the No. 7 hole, Eyegotitgoinon got out of the gates cleanly while there was significant contact between the horses on his immediate left. Jockey Ricky Ramirez kept the 2-year-old
gelding clear of that traffic,
and promptly charged to the
front of the eight-horse field.
From there, Ramirez urged
Eyegotitgoinon to a driving
finish, and the gelding pulled
away to win in commanding
fashion by a 1 3/4-length
margin of victory.
The win produced a $26,250 payday, improv- ing the total bankroll of the young gelding to $36,130. A
Trey Wood trainee, Eyegotitgoinon covered the 350 yards in :17.256, and posted a 101 speed index—his first in triple digits— despite the sloppy conditions.
“He was great today, he left perfect,” Ramirez said following the race. “If the race was longer, he still would have won.”
Dee and Betty Raper bred Eyegotitgoinon in Oklahoma out of Cant Hide Love, a 1996
mare now owned by Manuel Lopez. Cant Hide Love
has produced four starters among 10 total offspring, but Eyegotitgoinon is her first stakes winner.
Ground Hero (Valiant Hero-Libbys Cartel), the betting favorite at post time at 2-1 odds, finished second after he hopped at the start. Eddie D. Willis, who entered the last week of May as the leading trainer at this year’s
Remington meet, prepped the gelding for owner James Sills. Jimmy Brooks got the rid- ing assignment.
Paint The Candy Lane (PYC Paint
Your Wagon-Eden Lane), the morning-line favorite, lost for the first time in three career starts. Carl Pevehouse is the owner and Clint Crawford handled the training duties. Jockey Tony Bennett was aboard for the Easy Jet Stakes. Paint The Candy Lane already has black type, winning the Lady Bugs Moon Stakes in his previous out.
The remaining order of finish was First Down Shazoom (Shazoom-Nonanon), Big Bad Hoss (First Timber-Sistersospecial), Oh Spit
N Run (Spit Curl Jess-Oh Bunny Oh), First Flyn Dash (First Down Dash-Fast Flyin Prize) and Jess Tin Case (Gold Medal Jess-Lil Bit Strawfly). PR Double Tuffy was scratched.
