Beehive Futurity
BF MEMORY LANE
by Stacy Pigott
Trainer Ron Moosman is always a force to be reckoned with in the Intermountain region, and things were no different in the Beehive Futurity on May 19 at Laurel Brown Racetrack in South Jordan, Utah. Moosman saddled five of the 10 finalists in the $43,105 futurity, tak- ing the top two spots with BF Memory Lane and Virtual Moves.
BF Memory Lane had no trouble giving Moosman the Beehive victory
as the filly went wire to wire
under jockey Paul Greene.
She covered the 300 yards in
:15.632 while winning by an
easy two lengths. It was the
same margin BF Memory
Lane posted in winning her
Beehive trial on April 28,
where she set the seventh-fast-
est qualifying time of :15.613.
BF Memory Lane earned $15,086 for winning the Beehive, taking her lifetime
bankroll to $15,496 with two wins in two starts. She is the fourth winner from four starters for her dam, BF Lanes Game.
Bred and owned by Birrell Farms, BF Memory Lane is a half-sister to stakes-placed winners BF End Game, who was second
in the Utah Classic Futurity, and BF Head Game, who was third in the Silver Dollar Futurity-RG3, as well as track record setter BF
Lifeinthefastlane. BF Memory Lane is the first stakes winner out of BF Lanes Game, a winning daughter of Lanes Leinster. BF Memory Lane’s second dam, Takin On The Game, is a half-sister to stakes winners Sheza Bully and BF Outrageous. The latter is
the second dam of Beehive Futurity runner-up Virtual Moves (Maknmoves-BF Outrageous Doll).
Owned by Dan and
Patricia Baker, Virtual Moves previously won the Dixie Downs Futurity on April 21. He brought a three-race winning streak into the Beehive, facing his first career defeat in the finals. Moosman also trains Virtual Moves, who was ridden by Uriel Dominguez Jr.
Finishing third was Cir Famous Queen (Famous Lane-Cir Queen Of Style). Chancey Spencer conditions the gelding for owner Gary Robinson. Cameron Colledge rode.
The remaining order of finish was Jezabelle James (Jesse James Jr-Classy Makn Moves), BK Roxyamovin (Maknmoves-Jamies Charger),
El Rey Buccaneer (Buccaneer Beach-Colleens Cash), Perrys Grandson (Dashing Jess Perry- Eyesa Lady), Legendary Escape (Legendary Dreamer-Proud Escape), Red Sum Beach (Buccaneer Beach-AC Movin Merri), and Mr Flintlock (Jesse James Jr-A Royal Mistress).

Blink Of An Eye Stakes
JAKES CHARMING JODY
by Tracy Gantz
Jakes Charming Jody often wins her races by being quickest out of the gate. She needed every bit of that talent for the May 25 Blink Of An Eye Stakes at Remington Park because instead of her usual 350 or 400 yards, she and her nine foes would travel a mere 110 yards. It’s not a distance offered frequently, but when it is, fans get a kick out of watching horses battle over such a brief distance. In
this case, jockey Francisco
Ramirez Jr. had Jakes Charming Jody ready, and they bulleted right to the front. The filly outsprinted Miss Delta Duck to her inside. Coker James tried to stay with Jakes Charming Jody, but couldn’t do it, as Jakes Charming Jody pulled away to win by three-quar- ters of a length in :06.784.
Trainer Toby Keeton has handled Jakes Charming
Jody for owner-breeder Gary Kurz during the Remington meeting. In three earlier starts at the track this year, the filly won an allow- ance race and finished second in another. The Blink Of An Eye was her first stakes victory. Last year she finished second in the TQHA Sires’ Cup Derby-RG3 and third in the Firecracker Derby and Merial Lone Star Distaff Challenge.
Kurz bred Jakes Charming Jody in Texas from win-
ner Charming Elan. Jakes Charming Jody is the second starter and first winner for the mare. The second dam, High Charms, has also produced stakes-placed High Flyin Charm, High Rebel Charm, and First High Chick.
Enrique Rios Jr.’s Coker James (Ivory James-Scared) finished second under jockey Felipe Garcia-Luna. Stacey
Capps trains the gelding, who most recently broke his maiden at Remington in his fifth lifetime start.
Alex Baldillez Jr. piloted Dashing Coverage (Royal Quick Dash-Special Coverage) to
third for owner Alfredo Terrazas and trainer Ralph Muniz. Third in the 2009 West Texas Derby-G2, the gelding was coming off two wins at Remington.
Completing the field in the Blink of
an Eye Stakes were Speeding (Shazoom- Speedy Empress), Sunny D (Okey Dokey Dale-Sweethearts Lady), Paint A Famous Candy (PYC Paint Your Wagon-This Candys Famous), Miss Delta Duck (Fly Jess Fly- Lawanda Fay), Fame Fatale (Dash Ta Fame- Chic Easy Colours), Slick Little Beduino (Struttin To Beduino-Fairly Slick), and Jazz And Corona (Separatist-Jazzy Corona).
